My goal was to create tableaux of the flow of humans in the city. A stream we seldom notice as we tend to be part of it. Only once removed from the current can we begin to observe it and all its complexities. I believe photography can offer more than straight documentary, rather, it straddles the line between reality and fiction. Although, its long history of being truthful leads us to overlook the manipulations utilized today, ever more subtle and unnoticeable. The scenes depicted here may not have happened as such, but they are nevertheless real and demonstrate the peculiarities of life in the city.
Utilizing an elevated viewpoint I offer a new perspective. Scouting locations on foot, I would later return with my equipment and set up, photographing long enough to reach a point of satisfaction. As I watched the flow, I mentally noted any oddities for post-production. From my collection of photographs, I then stitched together my favorites to create the following scenes. Compositional techniques from painting were utilized to create a sense of harmony in the bustling streets of the city.
